Camp Lo | Uptown Saturday Night

Get Uptown Saturday Night playing tonight before you go out and you might have as much fun as the people on this album cover.

Fun Fact:  Camp Lo’s album cover was inspired by Marvin Gaye’s “I Want You” album.

Here’s a second speedpainting done for us by Deltorafann001.  We asked her for a night landscape and a day landscape, and she certainly delivered that.
Now it’s up to our web guy to make these images really come alive.  We’ll keep you posted!

Recently we visited deviantART to find artists to create some speedpaintings for us.  The only requirement was that the paintings include a tower on a cliff (aspects of our logo)…the rest was up to the artist.
This one was done by Deltorafann001.  We asked her because of the beautiful landscapes and lighting she creates.  Needless to say we are very happy with her work. What do you think we should call this?

Iniesta Messi & Fabregas Celebrate Player Influence Shot Chart Passing Chart

Last night FC Barcelona moved passed AC Milan and into their 5th consecutive Champions League semifinals.

Barcelona was awarded 2 penalties, which were cooly dispatched by Lionel Messi, with a third goal being added by Andres Iniesta.

Despite the insistance of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Milan wasn’t cheated by the refs.  As the graphical analysis above shows, they were thoroughly outplayed.

Milan’s Clarence Seedorf said the ref got the second penalty decision wrong, but acknowledged that Barcelona was the best side on the night.  Classy comments from a classy player; probably why he got a classy ovation from the away fans when he was substituted in the second half.

!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!
Too late I guess if you’ve already laid eyes on this poster from season 2 of HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Game of Thrones is the name of the first book in the series A Song of Ice and Fire.  In truth the second season should be called A Clash of Kings, but I suppose that would be confusing, to change the name of the show mid-stream.
This poster, however, is a very interesting marketing choice for HBO and the Game of Thrones show runners.  Entertainment Weekly called it potentially controversial.  What do you think?
*On a personal note, if you enjoyed the tv show, I strongly suggest you read the books.  You will devour them, and you’ll have a much better understanding of who is who and what is going on in Westeros and abroad.
Plus, with all the crazy stuff that happens in the books, you’ll enjoy watching your non-reader friends sweat it out each week waiting to see who will live and who will die.

In addition to being in the NBA Hall of Fame, Michael Jordan should also be in the Advertising Hall of Fame.

Working with Nike, Jordan laid down the blueprint for the modern athlete’s role in advertising.  Signing Jordan has to be the watershed moment in Nike’s history. They were so good together that even during Jordan’s 1st retirement (‘93-‘95) they were able to come up with creative advertisements that kept his shoes selling.

When he finally did come back to basketball, the demand for Jordan sneakers was as strong as it had ever been. The year of his comeback to the NBA saw the release of Jordan XI, arguably the most popular version ever, and the cause of many retail fiascos last Christmas.

Jordan XI

The video above is the Johnny Kilroy commercial from 1994. Steve Martin is our host, who is trying to get to the bottom of a mystery: Although Jordan is retired, players keep popping up that look and play suspiciously like him, including Motorboat Jones and Johnny Kilroy.  Kilroy raised suspicions when he scored 79 points in a single quarter for the Bulls.

They took this commercial so far that Upper Deck ended up releasing a Johnny Kilroy basketball card later that year, perpetuating the Kilroy legend and completing a truly memorable ad campaign.

Dee Faced Jay Decay Several Garbage Pail Kids Fryin' Brian Max Axe

I read something yesterday that I never thought I would read:  A movie studio is re-making 1987’s The Garbage Pail Kids movie.  If you’ve seen the original movie it’s something you’ll never forget it, but not for any positive reason.

For those of you too young to remember The Garbage Pail Kids, you can catch up in one minute by viewing this gallery, which just about sums up what they looked like, what they were, and why they aren’t popular anymore.

It make you wonder: Why is Hollywood going back to this well that dried up almost 25 years ago?

Do they think The Garbage Pail Kids brand is so strong it can withstand decades of inactivity?  Were they even that popular to begin with?  And have these studio execs seen the original live-action Garbage Pail Kids movie?  It was a travesty.  Plus most of the people who were into them back then are in their 30’s and 40’s now, and will hardly go to a theatre to watch this new debacle unfold.

At this time last year, Lionel Messi did not have a Facebook page.  He started one in April, and after seven hours he had 7 million Likes.  As of this writing he has 32,796,799.

Athletes and musicians have some of the largest social media following, whether it be on Facebook or Twitter or any other social site.  This makes them huge targets for advertisers who want to take advantage of the reach that Messi, or Cristiano Ronaldo (41 million+ Likes) or Eminem (54 million Likes) has.

By the way, the pictures above come from a great app called Stats Zone that you can find at fourfourtwo.com.  It basically provides infographics for every game played, and are a very good tool for analyzing the game.

Messi scored 5 goals as Barcelona demolished Bayer Leverkusen 7-1.  The 5 goals is a Champions League record for goals in a game.

||BONUS||  Footballers are big into Twitter, and many of them shared their thoughts on Messi’s performance last night.  Check out this link to see what the pros had to say about it.

Cinemagraphs have been mentioned on this website before.  They are really eye-catching, and present companies the opportunity to use them creatively.  For instance, check out these amazing cinemagraphs that Puma Ocean Racing had done to help with their advertising.
Tech Noir is a great website to find cinemagraphs done for movie scenes, and the latest one is my favorite one.  Rooney Mara’s portrayal of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo caused me to immediately find my Kindle and buy the next two books in the Millenium Trilogy.
Thanks to Tech Noir for this great cinemagraph, and as always, you need to click the image to see it in action.
